Local law enforcement learn about bomb threats

The Franklin County Sheriff's Department hosted its second group of training sessions this week as officials from the Alabama State Trooper's Bomb Squad were brought in to educate local law enforcement on how to deal with bomb threats.
Cpl. Thad Snyder, Lt. Clay Barnes, and Cpl. Robert Heeschen were brought in to teach the course on managing bomb threat situations and the proper response to explosive devices for first responders.
"The course is a four hour course," Barnes said. "We spend three hours in the classroom and one hour in the field working with explosive devices."
The course was offered for two days this week in order to give local agencies the opportunity to send several officers to the class.
"When we were planning the administrative building here at the new jail, we were planning to offer it to training agencies in our region to save them money," Franklin County Sheriff Larry Plott said.
Barnes said the squad travels around the state educating law enforcement officials about dealing with bomb threats because you never know when a threat will be made.
