Tharptown baseball wins fifth straight

The Tharptown varsity baseball team beat Mt. Hope Monday in a doubleheader as the Wildcats won 15-8 and 13-7 and pounded out 31 hits for their fifth consecutive win.
In the first game, Trevor Hallmark earned the win on the mound and Wade Berryman picked up the save. Hallmark went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI, while Zach Sockwell went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
In the second game, Brandon Cothrum was the winning pitcher and also went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer. Sockwell went 3-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run and two RBIs, and Berryman went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs.
Tharptown defeated Hazlewood 8-6 Tuesday as Jacob Parker came on in relief and struck out six of the 12 batters he faced to earn the win. Parker also went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Timmy Bryant went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Joseph Parker went 2-for-4 and one run scored and Hallmark and Sockwell each drove in two runs.
The Wildcats (6-3) will open area play Tuesday at Decatur Heritage and host Decatur Heritage Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Haleyville 0, 9
HALEYVILLE – The Russellville Middle School softball team split a doubleheader with Haleyville Tuesday as the Lady Golden Tigers won the first game 2-0 and lost the second 9-2.
Olivia Taylor struck out 13 batters for RMS in the opening victory, while Haley Arrington and Abbie Bendall converted a double play to end the fourth inning for the Lady Golden Tigers in the second game.
RMS will play one game at Red Bay Monday at 5 p.m. and a doubleheader at Belgreen Thursday at 4 p.m..
