RHS taps Goodwin as coach

Ending weeks of speculation and more than a month of anticipation, the Russellville Board of Education named Russellville's new athletic director and head football coach yesterday afternoon.
A former head coach at Demopolis High School, Doug Goodwin, will don the gold and black next football season and will assume the role of Athletic Director and head football coach effective April 9.
"I want to voice my appreciation to those who joined me in the search committee for a new coach and athletic director," Dr. Wayne Ray said during his recommendation to the board."
Ray added that their top priority was to find a man with strong character and integrity that will be a good role model for the students, and that they believed they found these qualities in Goodwin.
The board also accepted Coach Perry Swindall's teaching resignation affective March 30, and approved the substitute list for this month.
Swindall accepted a position at Spain Park High School last week.

The next Russellville Board of Education meeting will be held Thursday, May 3 at 3:30 p.m. at the Central Office.
