Amidst a festive sea of green, the Senior Adults of First Baptist Church in Russellville met for their annual "Green Luncheon" yesterday to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
The event is held annually on the Thursday before St. Patrick's Day.
The seniors were encouraged to wear green and to prepare some of their favorite green side dishes.
"I'm not really too sure where we got the idea from, but we're the only church in the area that has it," Minister of Music and Senior Adult Activities, Burt Fowler said. "We've had the event for the past 12 years, and the seniors always seem to really enjoy it."
"They're really creative with their green dishes. We've had everything from green chicken and dumplings, green bread, green cream corn, and even green cream potatoes" Fowler added.
This year was no exception, with such fares as pistachio salad, broccoli salad, green cream corn and even green banana pudding.
Fowler provided the entertainment for the event. Participants were treated to Fowler's acoustic renditions of such Irish classics as "Danny Boy" and "When Irish Eyes are Smiling."
