The search to find a replacement for Perrry Swindall as head football coach at Russellville High School is underway.
Superintendent Dr. Wayne Ray said Monday that the school board has received more than 25 applications from coaches aspiring to take over a program that has won 87 games over the past seven seasons and made three straight trips to the Super Six from 2002-04.
"We've kicked off the search, and we've had several applications come in," Ray said. "We've received applications from a lot of highly-qualified candidates."
Ray said that interviews with candidates will be conducted this week and next week, and he hopes the board will be able to vote on a new coach at its next meeting on March 29.
"I'd like to see us be able to do something by that time," Ray said. "I'm not saying we definitely will be able to, but that's what we're shooting for."
Swindall stepped down last month after leading the Golden Tigers to a 99-21 record during his nine seasons.
