Morrow leading tourism meeting

Franklin County Representative Johnny Mack Morrow is in Huntsville today, hoping to gather ideas about how he and state lawmakers can bolster the state's tourism.
The Alabama House of Representatives Tourism and Travel Committee, headed by Alabama Rep. Morrow, will hold a hearing in Huntsville from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Early Works Museum to hear from tourism professionals on what is needed to increase tourism in Alabama.
While in Huntsville, Morrow and the committee will visit six tourism bureaus and hear from representative from the local attractions that are directly affected by state tourism.
"What they'll do is come in and gather information," Charles Winters, Vice-President of Media Relations with the Huntsville/Madison County Convention and Visitors Bureau said.
"I'm sure Representative Morrow and the committee have a clear understanding of the tourism industry but hopefully after the meeting they will have a better understanding of what tourism means to the state as a whole."
Rep. Morrow plans to hold similar hearings throughout the state in the next four years, all of which are designed to pinpoint areas the state could use to provide a more attractive tourism package.
"Hopefully, I would think, this could lead to future legislation designed to give state tourism a boost," Winters said. "What that is I don't know, but I think these meetings over the next four years are a step in the right direction."
