Few local lovers opt to get hitched Feb. 14

Traditionally Valentine's Day is the day when many people typically decide to take the big plunge-that plunge into marriage.
While several Alabama counties reported an influx of couples rushing to the alter on Wednesday, Franklin County's Probate office issued only one marriage license and joined only one couple in matrimony Wednesday afternoon.
"We had several phone calls about getting married so we thought we were going to be really busy," Probate Judge Mike Green said.
However, in the end, only two couples decided to mark the world's most romantic day by making a commitment.
Jennifer Lynn Williams and Joseph Bernard Nelson applied for a marriage license and Mary Grace Evasco and Tommy Junior Vinson were married.
In years past, Valentine's Day has been quite popular among local couples looking to tie the knot.
In 2006, the county probate office united three couples in marriage, and four in 2005.
Going back 20 years, in 1987, Franklin County only married one couple on Valentine's Day, and no couples were married on Valentine's Day 30 in 1977.
