Potpourri donates money to library

Russellville's Potpourri Study Club decided to sponsor scholarships and help fund new book purchases at the Russellville Public Library, and the libraries at the elementary schools with proceeds from Breakfast with Santa.
The Russellville Public Library received $500 from the club Friday afternoon. The money will go into the library's book fund and will be used to purchase new books.
"We hope that this money will go to purchase more children's books," librarian Deborah Barnett said.
In addition to helping fund new books for the public library, the club donated $100 to the libraries at West Elementary School and Russellville Elementary School.
"West Elementary was having their book fair, and the money would be better spent at the book fair," Tracie Thompson, Potpourri Club president, said.
The club also plans to fund two $500 scholarships with the Breakfast proceeds. There will be one scholarship awarded to a Franklin County student and one to a Russellville City student. The scholarships will be awarded through a competitive selection process, Thompson said.
"We have enough money for one scholarship and almost enough for the second," Beth Pounders, tresurer, said. "That's why we decided on another fundraiser for this spring."
The Potpourri Club will be selling candles as their spring fundraiser. The candles are clean burning candles with gourmet scents.
"We expect to begin that fundraiser by the first of March," Thompson said.
The club wants to continue to serve their community by helping the libraries and the education of our future, Thompson said.
