Make a difference-buy some cookies

By Staff
Melissa Dozier-Cason, FCT staff writer
The Girl Scouts are at it again. By the way those boxes disappear around me, you would think they put something in them to make them addictive.
Girl Scout Cookies are the best cookies in the world, at least in my opinion. I have been hanging out with a local Brownie troop here in Russellville. I did a story on them back in September, and they just adopted me, and I am thankful for that.
I have only been to a couple of meetings but being there makes me remember being a brownie myself, and how much fun we had.
I only made it to be a brownie because my family moved away where Girl Scouts troops were rare. However, before becoming a Brownie, I spent a lot of time in the Cub Scout den because my mom was an assistant den mother for my brother's troop.
Robert spent several years as a cub scout before we had to move. I remember hanging out with my best friend, Jessica Valentine-the other den mother's daughter, during meetings.
We got to have snacks with the boys, and make crafts with them. Jessica and I got to do some cool stuff just because of our moms.
I remember vividly helping set up for ceremony nights and skit nights, and other cool stuff. It was rare that Jessica and I were not included. Actually, I think Day Camp was about it. We were at everything else.
One trip always comes to mind. I remember going, with the boys, to a rock store. It was pretty cool, and I am sure my mom still has some of the stuff we got that day. She's good a keeping stuff like that.
So, when I see the little brownies I remember those days from a time when the world seemed innocent. I am sure the world seems that way for these girls, and I hope that they will stay active in the scouts so that they can learn how to deal with the pressures of living and of life.
I am sure if we could do something to teach these girls about respect, manners, and self-esteem we would all pitch in and help. Well, guess what? There is a way to help these girls learn the skills they need to thrive in this world, and it's as simple as buying a box of cookies.
