RHS boys drop third straight in area play

Larquis Crutcher had 20 points to lead four players in double figures on Tuesday as Athens handed Russellville its third straight area loss, beating the Golden Tigers 74-58.
Russellville (9-4, 0-3 Class 5A, Area 16) trailed 20-8 after one quarter and 38-15 at the half before making a late run.
Justin Thorne hit three consecutive three-pointers as the Golden Tigers closed the third quarter on a 13-0 run, trimming Athens' lead to 52-37.
Russellville pulled to within 13 at 55-42 early in the fourth quarter before a 7-0 run by Athens put the game away.
Ferrell Williams had 15 points for the Golden Eagles (1-1 area). Justin Pitts added 12, and Chad McDonald had 10.
Russellville played at Haleyville on Thursday and will host Florence tonight.
In other recent action:
Shoals Christian 63 Belgreen 41
Shane Fretwell, Marty Britton and Kyle Warren each had seven points to lead the Bulldogs in Tuesday's area loss.
Daniel Almon led Shoals Christian with 18 points, and Franklen Long added 17.
Belgreen will host Vina tonight for homecoming.
Varsity girls
Athens 83 Russellville 58
Jordan Dollar had 23 points to lead Russellville in Tuesday's area loss.
Sierra Caudle led No. 4 Athens (15-3, 2-0 Class 5A, Area 16) with 28 points and 17 rebounds, and Keona Shoulders added 17 points.
Russellville (1-2 area) traveled to Haleyville on Thursday and will host Florence tonight.
Shoals Christian 39 Belgreen 35
A late rally by Belgreen fell short in Tuesday's area loss.
The Lady Bulldogs trailed by 12 before out-scoring Shoals Christian 15-7 in the fourth quarter.
Deborah Billingham led Belgreen with 13 points, and Amber Smith added 10.
Jessica Hartley led Shoals Christian (9-9, 4-1 Class 1A, Area 16) with 12 points, and Mackenzie Bishop added 11.
Belgreen will host Vina tonight for homecoming.
