Lady Tigers start strong in area win

Red Bay jumped out to a 16-2 lead after one quarter and never looked back on Friday, rolling to a 54-21 win over Cherokee in Class 2A, Area 16 action.
Kirstin Sharp had 11 points to lead a balanced scoring attack for the Lady Tigers (11-7, 2-1 area), who held a commanding 36-5 lead at the half.
Brittany Scott added 10 points, and Morgan Duncan had nine. Alesha Nelson finished with eight, and Chelsey McWilliams added seven.
Red Bay was scheduled to host Phil Campbell in another area game on Tuesday.

Shoals Christian 55 Belgreen 44
Deborah Billingham led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points in Friday's Class 1A, Area 16 loss.
Mary Billingham added 10 points for Belgreen, which trailed 29-23 at the half and 40-30 after three quarters.
Mackenzie Bishop led Shoals Christian with 22 points, and Noel Byrd had 11.
Belgreen was scheduled to host Shoals Christian in a rematch on Tuesday.
Mars Hill 64 Phil Campbell 40
Chasity Morgan and Caitlin Stancil each had 14 points to lead Phil Campbell in Friday's loss to the sixth-ranked Lady Panthers.
Shelly Cooper added seven points for the Lady Bobcats (7-11, 2-3 Class 2A, Area 16).
Sarah Bailey had 21 points for Mars Hill (14-5), which led 17-6 after one quarter.
Phil Campbell trimmed the lead to 10 at the half, but Mars Hill out-scored the Lady Bobcats 24-14 in the third quarter to put the game away.
Sarabeth Little and Raegan Rutherford each added 11 points for the Lady Panthers.
Phil Campbell was scheduled to play at Red Bay on Tuesday.

Cherokee 50 Red Bay 46
The No. 8 Indians jumped out to a 21-9 lead after one quarter and then held on to beat the Tigers in Friday's Class 2A, Area 16 battle.
Jesse James led Red Bay with 16 points, and Grant Fancher added nine. Ethan Davis and Derrick Miller each had six.
Dominique Croom led Cherokee (13-2) with 14 points, and Pierre Goodloe added 13.
Red Bay was scheduled to host Phil Campbell in another area game on Tuesday.
Shoals Christian 71 Belgreen 49
Lucas Albert led the Bulldogs with 19 points in Friday's Class 1A, Area 16 loss.
Belgreen led 17-10 after one quarter, but the Flame caught fire in the second quarter and out-scored the Bulldogs 32-6 to take a 42-23 halftime lead.
Ben Kahler led Shoals Christian with 25 points, and Daniel Almon added 14.
Kyle Warren had eight points for Belgreen, and Shane Fretwell and Brent Newell each added seven.
Belgreen was scheduled to host Shoals Christian in a rematch on Tuesday.
