Trapp, Russellville boys come out on fire

The Russellville Golden Tigers got their season off to a red-hot start this past weekend with a pair of lopsided wins over Haleyville and Sheffield.
On Friday, coach Michael Smith's team burned up the nets with 16 three-pointers in a 91-44 rout of the visiting Lions.
Junior guard Cory Trapp led Russellville (2-0) with 32 points, including a career-high nine threes. His previous career best was eight three-pointers, also against Haleyville in a game last season.
Freshman Terence Smith added 17 points for the Golden Tigers, and Justin Thorne had 11. Siran Winston finished with nine, and Andy Pounders and Jay Bates each had eight.
Trapp made three treys in the first quarter and four more in the second, helping Russellville reach the 50-point mark in a huge first half.
The Golden Tigers followed up that performance with a 72-52 win at Sheffield on Saturday. They led by just six points before out-scoring the Bulldogs 14-0 in the fourth quarter.
Trapp finished with a team-high 21 points, including five three-pointers. Winston added 16 points, and Bates had 15. Thorne chipped in with 12 points, and Smith added eight.
Michael Hegler had 22 points to lead Sheffield (4-3).
Russellville was scheduled to return to action on Tuesday at Lawrence County.

Sheffield 66 Russellville 43
Jordan Dollar led the Lady Golden Tigers with 12 points in Saturday's loss.
Erin Reynolds added 10 points for Russellville (0-3), which trailed 31-18 at the half.
Mondricka Whitson led Sheffield with 16 points, and Zennunie Campbell added 14.
Haleyville 54 Russellville 46
Russellville led by three before being out-scored 16-5 in the fourth quarter.
Russellville's Jordan Dollar led all scorers with 16 points. Sasha Willingham added 13.
Hannah Elliott had 14 points to lead Haleyville (8-3), and Caroline King and Logan Tedder each added 10.
Russellville traveled to face Lawrence County on Tuesday.
