Community Education reaches out to preschoolers through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
The Imagination Library started in Franklin County in August, and currently services 200 children county wide from birth to age 5, Carla Hutto, project coordinator, said.
The project helps support reading skills in preschoolers by supplying registered children with books. Registration brochure were distributed throughout the community. Brochures have been given to hospitals, schools and daycare centeres, Hutto said.
"Each registered child receive free books in the mail," Hutto said.
The program has received at total of $4,500 from the Resource Conservation and Development. The money will be used to fund the library program, Hutto said.
Anyone who would like to register their child with the Imagination Library may do so by completing the registration brochure, or by contacting Community Education at 332-0005.
Imagination Library began in East Tennessee in 1996 by Dolly Parton. She wanted to instill a love of reading from a young age. The first book each child receives is the "Little Engine That Could" and the last "Look Out Kindergarten, Here I Come," according to Imagination Library website.
