PHIL CAMPBELL – The Northwest-Shoals Community College (NW-SCC) men's cross country team placed five runners in the top seven to win the 2006 Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) Championship and earn a trip to the National Junior College cross country meet.
The Patriots put together their best effort of the season as they captured the Region XXII title held in Hoover, AL.
"We raced really well against some pretty stiff competition," said Patriots coach Thomas Pearce. "Daniel [Dill] set the bar and our other guys followed suit."
Dill (Muscle Shoals) led the Patriots with a third place (30:24) finish. Brandon Clement (Hackleburg) was fourth (31:08), followed by Joel Berryman (Town Creek) in fifth (31:52), John Peters (Hackleburg) in sixth (32:49) and Alex Smothers (Mantachie, MS) in seventh (32:58).
Each earned All-Region honors. Austin Miller (Elkmont) placed 10th (34:30).
Northwest-Shoals tallied the low score of 25 points, followed by Wallace State-Hanceville with 32 points and Southern Union State Community College with 70 points.
