Russellville DayHab hosts Open House

By Staff
Melissa Dozier-Cason FCT Staff Writer
Russellville's DayHab Center hosted an Open House and Fall Festival Monday, Oct. 23 at their facility on Jackson Ave. for their clients and the general public.
Clients, client caregivers, staff members and their families, and other members of the community spent the night playing games, eating food, and enjoying the fall carnival atmosphere at the DayHab. The carnival games included a treasure hunt, ring toss and a haunted house.
The DayHab facility is operated by Volunteers of America, who currently have three group homes in Franklin County for the mentally challenged, Teresa Stephenson, program director, said.
The DayHab currently has five clients but can take up to 15 clients for life skills training.
The facility has two full time staff members in addition to its facility director, Leaha Yocum, but will add more staff as needed so that the staff to client ratio is one staff member for every three clients, Stephenson said.
"We opened the DayHab facility because we kept getting phone calls asking for more services for the community since we only have three homes in Franklin County," Stephenson said.
The DayHab provides transportation to and from training, and meets from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Monday through Friday.
