County employees get raise

The Franklin County Commission passed next year's budget for the next fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, which allowed for a little something extra in the bank accounts of county employees and retirees.
"Employees get a 25-cent pay increase on their base pay rate, and four percent for retirees for cost of living increase," County Administrator Gail Estis said.
The new budget includes an increase on pay scales, longevity scales and a resolution for a cost of living increase for county retirees.
Commissioner Rayburn Massey commended all department heads for their work with last year's budget, but acknowledged that there was "not much breathing room" in this year's budget.
The total budget amount will be $9,662,883.20 and will be divided into three sections: General fund, $4,888,494.56; Solid Waste Department, $2,244,084.40 and the Highway Department, $2,530,304,24, according to the
