Healthcare workers usually focus on treating cancer. But recently, seven Russellville Hospital employees participated in an event that aims to prevent the disease.
The employees took part in the American Cancer Society's 5K Hope Run, held on Saturday, Aug. 19, in Russellville.
Hospital officials said this is just one of the ways that Russellville Hospital employees are working to inspire and empower people with cancer and participating in the fight for a cure.
Two Russellville Hospital employees ran in the Livestrong Challenge in Philadelphia, Penn., on Sept. 10. The two participants from Russellville Hospital were Kara Welch and Angie Hitt.
The Livestrong Challenge is the Lance Armstrong Foundation's signature fundraising event. The annual series of events takes place in five cities across the country, enabling anyone to support LAF's mission to inspire and empower people affected by cancer.
The American Cancer society is the nationwide community-based volunteer health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy, and patient services.
Contributions to LAF and the American Cancer Society are used for cancer research. Donations also help implement programs within the Franklin area, such as the Look Good, Feel Better Program, the Road to Recovery Program, and others.
Many volunteers from Franklin County support the programs, according to hospital officials, who urged more area residents to take bold, meaningful action in the face of cancer.
