The process to select a successor to Dan Washburn as Executive Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Association has begun, according to Coach Richard Robertson, president of the Central Board of Control charged with spearheading the process.
Washburn, who has served as director for the last 16 years, notified the Central Board of his intentions to retire July 31, 2007, and tendered his resignation, effective on that 2007 date, at the Board's annual summer meeting July 19.
"It is my desire to work closely with the Central Board and the Executive Director you choose to ensure the continued growth and success of the AHSAA and its member schools," he told the Board at the conclusion of the meeting. "It's been these boards, the AHSAA staffs and the coaches and administrators around the state that have made our association successful."
