Bucs cruise to win in Champions Challenge

By Staff
From staff reports
The Hoover Bucs lived up to their billing as the nation's top-ranked high school team this past Saturday, manhandling defending Class 4A state champion UMS-Wright 38-0 in the inaugural Champions Challenge at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
Senior quarterback Ross Wilson led the way for Hoover, completing 16-of-23 passes for 261 yards and four touchdowns before heading to the bench shortly after halftime.
"Ross had a great game," Hoover coach Rush Propst said. "We took him out early in the second half because we didn't want him to get hurt."
Wilson connected with Charlie Zorn for a 74-yard touchdown pass on Hoover's fifth play from scrimmage. He added a pair of scoring tosses to senior receiver Brandon Clear and then threw his final touchdown pass to Adam McBrayer.
In the other matchup at the Champions Challenge, which pits defending state champions against one another, 2A champ Clay County rolled past 1A champ Addison 41-6.
