A former Franklin County Sheriff's Department corrections officer was arrested Tuesday and charged with sexual misconduct, Sheriff Larry Plott said.
According to jail records, William Chris Saint, 29, of Highway 22 in Spruce Pine, was charged with one count of custodial sexual misconduct, a Class C felony.
He was later released on $2,500 bond.
Saint was employed by the sheriff's department approximately 7 years. His last day of employment was Dec. 21, according to department records.
Plott said after being alerted to a possible act of misconduct between a corrections officer and an inmate, his department conducted an internal investigation, consulting with the Alabama Bureau of Investigation.
Information gleaned in that investigation was then presented to the March session of the Franklin County grand jury and Saint was indicted on the charge.
Plott said the case would be placed on an upcoming trial docket.
