A Franklin County beef producer has been elected vice president of the Alabama Cattlemen's Association.
Orland Britnell of Waco was elected to the position while attending the ACA's annual convention in Birmingham in late February.
Founded in 1944, the ACA serves as the voice of the state's cattle producers and beef industry.
The association has over 12,000 members and also serves as Alabama's qualified state beef council.
Britnell has served in a number of executive positions with the Franklin County chapter of the ACA, including four years as president.
According to Britnell, the Franklin County chapter is one of the state's most vigorous organizations.
This achievement qualifies the Franklin cattlemen chapter for the ACA's “Over the Top” honor.
Clean water, private property rights, international trade, animal disease, food safety and taxation are some of the issues the ACA addresses through education programs and lobbying efforts.
Anyone interested in joining the ACA can contact a member or officer for more information. Dues are $30 a year.
Membership in the association includes a subscription to “The Alabama Cattleman” magazine, a steak supper at the annual meeting, and a $1,000 livestock theft award.
Britnell, who recently returned from the Southeastern Livestock Exposition &Rodeo in Montgomery, said the ACA spring board board meeting will be held at the association's headquarters in Montgomery on Tuesday, April 25.
This year's “Growing Together” picnic of poultry and beef producers will take place Saturday, June 17, at the Elliot Branch Pavilion at Little Bear Creek Lake.
