Tharptown wins Classic

Tharptown Junior High delivered a dominant performance at the Liberty Classic Fastpitch Softball Invitational last weekend, out-scoring four opponents 33-1 en route to capturing the tournament title.
The Lady Wildcats opened play with an 8-0 victory over New Hope.
Jess Myrick struck out 10 batters to earn the win.
Hollie Hines led Tharptown at the plate with a double and a single. Myrick had a double, and Heather Hatton added a single.
In game two, Laken Barnett pitched a no-hitter as Tharptown blanked host Liberty Middle School 8-0.
Keri Metcalf homered and singled for the Lady Wildcats, and Meagan Tverberg drove in two runs.
Hatton added two hits, and Lauren Scott, Barnett, Lori Metcalf and Chelsea McCluskey each had a single.
Myrick struck out 10 batters in the semifinals as Tharptown defeated Madison County 6-0.
Keri Metcalf led the Lady Wildcats' hitting attack with a double, two singles and three RBIs.
Myrick added a double and an RBI, and Hatton had two hits. Barnett also singled.
Tharptown wrapped up the title with an 11-1 victory over Lincoln County, Tennessee, in the finals.
Myrick again was the winning pitcher, striking out nine.
Hines led the Lady Wildcats with four hits, including a home run, and five RBIs.
Scott also homered, and Hatton finished with a double, two singles and two RBIs.
Myrick and Tverberg each added a single.
In regular season play:
Tharptown 10 East Franklin 0
Lauren Scott homered and drove in two runs, and Keri Metcalf added two hits and an RBI as the Lady Wildcats remained unbeaten with Tuesday's win.
Jess Myrick struck out eight batters in five innings to earn the win for Tharptown (5-0).
Heather Hatton had one RBI.
