PHIL CAMPBELL - All of Jordan Dollar's extra work is paying off.
Dollar continued her recent strong play with 17 points on Thursday, and Quinetta Phillips scored seven of her 17 points in a pivotal third-quarter run as Russellville defeated Phil Campbell 53-37.
Dollar's strong suit as a freshman last year was her perimeter shot, but, as she demonstrated often on Thursday, she is now equally adept at getting to the basket.
Bostick said that Dollar probably shoots close to 300 shots each morning before school.
Dollar got the Lady Golden Tigers off to a hot start with nine points in the first quarter, including a three in the final seconds that gave Russellville a 13-8 lead.
She had 13 points at halftime as Russellville led 27-18.
Phil Campbell pulled to within five at 33-28 on a three-pointer by Tanna Benford midway through the third quarter, but that's when Phillips stepped to the forefront.
The 6-foot-3 senior center scored on a putback to make it 35-28, and she blocked a shot on the other end to set up her own three-point play that pushed the lead to 10.
Phillips then nailed a turnaround jumper to make it 40-28 with 1:40 left in the third.
Phillips was a big factor defensively all night, blocking several shots and altering many more.
Victoria Taylor added eight points for Russellville.
Benford led Phil Campbell with 14 points, 11 in the first half. Erin Gilbert added nine, and Shelly Cooper had four.
