Russellville High School just keeps on competing for state honors.
Currently, 18 members of the Russellville High School and Middle School choral programs are preparing for the Alabama All-State competition, which will be held on the campus of Samford University in Birmingham from March 3-5.
The students auditioned for the opportunity to participate in November and were notified that they had qualified for All-State in mid-December.
At the competition, the students will be performing for world renowned composers and conductors and learning a variety of musical pieces.
The rehearsals will also require the students to learn several pieces that are in foreign languages such as Russian, French, Latin, German and Italian.
This year will mark the largest group of students from Russellville to ever compete at the All-State level. There are 10 members from the high school and eight from RMS.
Kimbrough said that the addition of an all-state choir class at the high school three years ago has contributed to the success of the program.
In addition to the upcoming All-State competition, some students recently auditioned for the All-State show choir. Students participating in this level of competition must perform dance auditions as well as vocal.
This year, Jessica Shelton, a senior at RHS, became one of only 60 members statewide to be chosen for the show choir. She will perform at the Music Educators conference at Auburn later in the spring.
