Mountain View Baptist continues tradition of free Thanksgiving meal

The Chat-n-Chew restaurant in Phil Campbell is usually crowded with people waiting to get their favorite hamburger or plate lunch.
But on Thursday, Nov. 25, the restaurant will be serving something different: an old fashioned, traditional Thanksgiving dinner.
For the fourth straight year, Mountain View Baptist Church will serve a free Thanksgiving meal at the Chat-n-Chew from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In 2003, the church served approximately 125 meals and looking to serve even more this year.
The location of the Chat-n-Chew in downtown Phil Campbell makes it an easy accessible place to host the lunch.
The dinner will feature a full, traditional Thanksgiv-ing meal with turkey and dressing, green beans, candied yams, mashed potatoes, roll, drink and dessert.
The church is opening the lunch to anyone who wants to attend and is also providing meals to the home-bound.
The Thanksgiving activities at Mountain View actually began a little earlier this year.
On Nov. 14, a group of 11 children and their teachers honored the seniors at the church by preparing coffee mugs filled with hot chocolate and cookies. The gifts included a note saying "you've been mug-ed and now you've been hug-ed."
The special presentations were used to kick off the Thanksgiving season by giving to the seniors and showing them how thankful the children were for their leadership.
That same appreciation and love is what the church hopes to share through its free Thanksgiving Day dinner.
