Retired railroad engineer
Services for Ronny Alawine were held today at 10 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Tommy Scarbrough, Ed Pickle, and Toby Lofton officiating. Burial was in the Collinsville United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Alawine, 65, of Collinsville, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at Rush Foundation Hospital. In spite of his illness, his spirit never wavered. He was an inspiration to his family and friends. Mr. Alawine was a member of the Collinsville United Methodist Church. He was a Mason, a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve, a member of the Son's of Confederate Veterans, and an avid race car fan. He was a retired engineer with the G.M.O./I.C.G./K.C.S. Railroad.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Alawine of Collinsville; five children, Ronald Alawine Jr., of Orange Beach, Fla., Robert Clay Alawine and his wife, Paula, of Bradenton, Fla., Kenneth Scott Alawine and Cynthia Carol Alexander, both of Meridian, and Teresa Leeanne Alawine, of San Diego; three grandchildren, Erica Boykin and her husband, John, Nick Alexander, Collin Alawine; a great-grandson, Jacob Boykin; two sisters, Carol Alawine Sessums and her husband, David, of Collinsville and Sheila Alawine Thead and her husband, Larry, of Macon; a brother, Bobby Alawine and his wife, Sulema, of Washington; his father-in-law, Willard Watkins of Kosciusko; his mother-in-law, Mavis Watkins of Oxford; a sister-in-law, Teresa James and her husband, Terry, of Oxford; a brother-in-law, Scottie Watkins and his wife, Penny, of Little Rock, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Cecile Alawine; and three brothers, Jimmy, Kenny, and Jack Alawine.
The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
Pallbearers were Jesse Roberts, Robert Allen, Thad Roberts, Allan Stewart, Jimmy Boatner and Frankie Hoffer.
Alderwoman of Enterprise
Services for Linda R. Buckley will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Episcopal Church with the Revs. Rob Bagwell and Harriet P. Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Enterprise Cemetery. James F. Webb Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Buckley, 61, of Enterprise, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. She was a graduate of Mississippi University for Women where she earned a master's degree. She also attended the University of Florida. She was a historian and was involved in her dream of restoration of the Smith-Buckley Plantation. She was a member of the board of directors of both Historic Clark County and the Clark County Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include her mother, Christine J. Buckley; and a sister, Olga B. Karnobich, both of Gulfport; a brother, Laurance B. Buckley Jr., of Pass Christian; a nephew, Laurance B. Buckley III, of Corona, Calif.; two nieces, Kimberly A. Parnell of Falls Church, Va., and Rennie L. Karnobich of Little Rock, Ark.; a great-niece, Laren A. Buckley of Corona; and special friends, Bill Baxley and Brenda R. Lord.
The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Foundation or St. Mary Episcopal Church in Enterprise.
Pallbearers will be L.B. Buckley Jr., L.B. Buckley III, Bill Baxley, Brenda Reid Lord, Arthur McMillian and Michael Elfring.
NEWTON Services for Gerald "Jerry" Smith will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Clarke Venable Baptist Church in Decatur. Burial will be in the Decatur Cemetery. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Smith, 83, of Decatur, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at Baptist Montclair Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home and Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements were incomplete at Stephens Funeral Home of DeKalb, for Hazel K. Shirley, 79, of DeKalb, who died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, in DeKalb.
