MPD investigates shooting

The Meridian Police Department is investigating the Saturday night shooting of a 5-year-old at the Western Gardens apartments.
Lt. Wade Johnson said the police department responded to the apartment complex shortly after 6:20 p.m. A boy had been shot in the leg and was taken to a local hospital. He said the boy was in good condition.
Johnson said the police department's criminal investigation division will take over the case today or Monday. He said the shooting was likely an accident; he declined to identify the boy.
