West Lauderdale standout Jay Warren was recently honored at the school's athletic banquet.
The senior received the Richard May Award, which honors the top male athlete at West Lauderdale.
According to Warren, the award was a tremendous honor.
The award is given each year to one athlete that excels as an athlete and also as a person.
The award winner was voted on by the teachers and coaches of West Lauderdale.
According to Warren, the award was a a very pleasant surprise.
Warren participated in baseball and football for the Knights throughout his high school career.
He was left fielder for the baseball team which finished as South State runner-up this past season.
Warren was also involved in a successful season on the football field. He helped the Knights finish 9-3 and reach the second round of the postseason from his safety position.
Many great standouts have received the award in the past and, according to Warren, having his name listed along with those athletes is an awesome honor.
