Dear Diary…daily thoughts from Colorado

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. I woke up at 6:30 this morning, took a shower and went to practice to get ready for the game.
It was real relaxed before the game, but we were kind of surprised by the cool weather. It had been real warm since we got here, and you hear people from here say how it doesn't rain much.
The weather turned out different during the game against Pensacola (Fla.) Junior College, which we lost 9-5. It rained and it was colder than we expected. That is how it goes, and you can't control that.
It was a frustrating game. We didn't pitch well; we didn't play defense at times well committing five errors; but we did hit well in the game.
It is good to get those first time jitters out of the way, I guess.
The game kind of went back and forth for a little while, after we got off to a slow start.
We answered a few runs, but we couldn't hand a zero (keep the other team from scoring) when we needed to. Basically, defense and pitching hurt us.
Everybody was disappointed after the game, but we know we have another chance to prove ourselves again. We know we didn't play like we know how to play.
At lunch after the game, you could see on everybody's faces that they were wondering what just happened.
You could also tell that some people were trying to let it go, because if you hold what happened against Pensacola into (today's) game it is not going to do you any good.
We have to get past it and do our best (today).
The rest of the day, people who played and those who sat on the bench can contribute to the team.
The guys who played can go over what they could have done differently pitching, defense and hitting. The guys in the dugout can think about what they could have done if they were in the same situations.
We relaxed the rest of the day and went to the night game (between San Jacinto Community College North and Seminole College.)
We just have to mark (Saturday) up to a mess up and prove ourselves (today). We just need to take a mulligan on the first game.
