The Quitman High Panthers will be looking for some of their younger players to step forward during the 2004 season as they gear up for their season opener Aug. 27 at Heidelberg High School.
The Panthers finished 7-5 last season last year and made it to the second round of the State 4A playoffs.
The Panthers will run a double wing on offense. Justin Holloman has a year of playing time under his belt and will be the starting quarterback backed by Josh Lafferty.
Randy Carter, who rushed for over 600 yards last season, will be back at tailback, while Donnie Shoales manned the fullback position. Playing at the wingbacks will be Cordero Laphand, Vance Taylor and Jamen Robinson.
The Panthers have two players ready to play at center in Andrew Driver and Jared Smith. The guards will be Jimmy Mitchell, Jay Lewis and Sam Parks, while the tackles will be Justin Roberts and Keithen Harris. Cody Hollis and Everett James will start at the tight ends.
Quitman's defense lines up in a 4-4. Justin Roberts and Jeremy Lee will start at the tackles while Willie Jones and Alex Altman will be at the ends. Sam Parks and J.D. Shoales will play at the inside linebacking positions while Cedric Locke is one of the outside linebackers. Randy Carter and Vance Taylor will start at the safeties with Cordero Laphand and Jamen Robinson at the corners.
