Enterprise keeps rolling along

The Enterprise High School Bulldogs may be getting a little road-weary, but they are a long way from being tired of playing baseball.
The Bulldogs (23-7) open their MHSAA Class 2A South State Championship Series against North Forrest High School on the road today at 7 p.m. The two teams play at Enterprise on Monday at 7 p.m. in the best-of-three series. The if-necessary game will be played at North Forrest at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
That wasn't much of a factor on Thursday night other than the fact the team and its supporters had to travel to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The Bulldogs thumped Mercy Cross of Biloxi 11-5 in the deciding third game. EHS lost the first game, but fought back to win the next two.
One of the keys to Enterprise bouncing back to win that series, was the strong pitching of Adam Simpson in game two.
Simpson, now 6-4 for the season, will get the start tonight.
Only Simpson and junior left-hander Wade Weathers (13-2) pitched in the series against Mercy Cross.
The Bulldogs may have to call on Baron Blackwell and Lance Irby out of the bullpen in the South State series.
North Forrest earned its spot in the South State finals by beating Seminary 9-8 in the third and deciding game on Thursday.
North Forrest is 18-14, but Wilkins says that record can certainly be deceiving.
Mooreville (28-3) and Hamilton (23-9) are playing for the North State Championship beginning today.
The two winners will meet in the state championship series beginning on May 15 at the site of the South winner.
