Young pianists can showcase their talents at the first annual East Central Community College District Piano Festival May 8 in the Vickers Fine Arts Center on the Decatur campus.
Event organizer Len Bobo, who serves as keyboard instructor at the college, said competition is scheduled from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and will be divided into three categories according to years of experience.
Category I is for beginners with up to two years of experience; Category II is for students with two to four years of experience; and Category III is for participants with more than four years of piano to their credit.
In addition to the competition, students have an opportunity to audition for a tuition scholarship to attend ECCC by performing a selection from the classics.
Cost to compete is $5 per participant, which covers fees for judges. Registration forms and payment should be sent to the college by April 30.
For more information call ECCC at 635-2111 or, toll-free, (877) 462-3222 and ask for music instructors Len Bobo, ext. 227, or Vicki Blaylock, ext. 225.
