The Northeast Lauderdale Trojans continued to roll on Tuesday as Corey Chance pitched seven strong innings, picking up 10 strikeouts in an 8-6 road win over Florence.
The Trojans had eight hits in the game, and Chad Brunson led the way with two hits, including a home run and four RBIs. Jeremy Barnacastle added a home run for Northeast Lauderdale.
Northeast Lauderdale (16-4, 7-2) returns to action Thursday at home against Mendenhall at 7 p.m.
Morton 15
Newton County 5
Newton County (12-12) had 10 hits, but Morton scored 12 early runs to take the 10-run win.
Jared Cavenaugh led the Cougars at the plate with three singles, and Josh Pender had two singles and a double to round out the offense for Newton County.
Newton Academy 8-12
Sylva-Bay 5-2
The Generals swept a pair of key divisional games against Sylva-Bay on Tuesday night at home. Lee Blackburn led the way in game one with two hits, including a home run.
Daniel Grimes added a home run and two RBIs. Sam Thames took the win for Newton Academy (15-4) in game one to improve his record to 5-1.
In game two, the Generals had no problems in taking the 10-run victory over Sylva-Bay. Thames led the way with two hits, including a double. Blackburn added two doubles and two RBIs.
Adams Christian 21
Lamar 1
The Raiders fell to 3-13 with a tough loss to Adams Christian on Tuesday night at home. Drew Moffett and Denver Harrison led the way for Lamar with a double apiece.
West Jones 9
Wayne County 2
The West Jones Mustangs used a balanced hitting attack and solid pitching to down the Wayne County War Eagles by a seven-run margin.
The War Eagles got a double and a single from leadoff man Jonathan Stevens and singles from Gordon Baygents, Dillon Boyles and Dustin Freeman.
PREP SOFTBALL
Clarkdale 12
Neshoba Central 10
The Lady Bulldogs rebounded from a 4-0 loss to Union on Monday to take a two-run win over Neshoba Central Tuesday night. Clarkdale (18-4) collected 17 hits in the game and had five players with multiple hits. Sabrina Woodall led the way with four singles, and Emily Howard had three hits, including a double.
Brandi Wright, Kimbo Seale, and Megan Potate each added two hits in the road win for Clarkdale. Seale (1-0) picked up the win for the Lady Bulldogs. Clarkdale will return to action this weekend in the state playoffs.
Lamar 17
Heritage 2
Lamar (7-4) scored early and often, cruising to a slow-pitch softball win over Heritage. Celia Covington led the way with two triples and Cheryl Luquire had four RBIs on two hits.
Lizzie Williams also had a single and an RBI for Lamar.
Lamar 18
Wayne 3
The Lady Raiders scored another impressive win on Monday night at home over Wayne Academy. Covington led the way with three hits and two RBIs, and Williams added two doubles.
Jasmine Harris had two singles and two RBIs, and S.M. Mitchell had a double and four RBIs.
