EMCC splits a pair of games with Bevill St.

FAYETTE, Ala. East Mississippi Community College split a doubleheader against Bevill State (13-11) on Wednesday. The Lions (7-17) grabbed a 10-5 win in the second game, after losing the first game 7-3.
Andrew Pylate notched his first win of the season on the mound for EMCC in the second game. He is 1-3 for the season.
The Lions posted a 4-0 lead after the first two innings in the nightcap, with RBI singles by David Nanney and Brandon Mabry in the first, and a two-run double by Chris Stamps in the second.
EMCC took an 8-1 lead in the sixth inning, after giving up one run in the fourth. Tyler Bratton and Stamps both hit two-run singles in the four-run sixth.
Bevill State picked up two runs in the bottom of the sixth, and the Lions posted their final two runs in the seventh inning.
EMCC's Rod Williams hit a one-run double, and Bratton drove in a run with a triple, as the Lions took a 3-0 lead in the second. The other run scored on a walk.
Bevill State tallied three runs in the third inning off two hit batters, a walk, one hit and a fielder's choice. Bevill State posted two runs in the fourth and sixth innings.

DECATUR East Central Community College dropped a pair of home games to Gulf Coast Community College on Wednesday.
ECCC's Jacob Townsend hit a pair of home runs in the opening game for three RBIs, and Corey Coward went 3-for-4 for the Warriors. There were no stats reported for the second game.
Co-Lin 6-7
Jones 2-2
The Bobcats dropped a pair of games on the road at Co-Lin Tuesday to drop their record to 10-17.
Jones was led at the plate in game one by Jeremy Perkins with a home run and Jared Myrick also added a pair of singles in the 6-2 loss in game one.
In game two Jones fell behind 5-0 and never was able to recover as Co-Lin secured the sweep. Joey Mooney led the Bobcats a pair of hits and also took the loss on the mound.
COLLEGE BASEBALL

STARKVILLE Joe Denson pitched a a three-hit shutout as Samford beat Mississippi State 6-0 Wednesday night.
Richard Bishop hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning to put the game away for Samford (4-14).

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. Alabama scored in all but one inning Wednesday night as the Crimson Tide cruised to a 20-2 win over Morehead State.
Alabama (16-7) pounded out 15 hits and benefited from four Morehead State (5-13) errors in its 13th straight home victory.

NEW ORLEANS Trailing 9-6 with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning and the bases loaded, Ryan Moity hit a bases clearing double to tie the score at 9.
Hudson Miller followed with a single that plated Moity and gave the Loyola Wolfpack a 10-9 come-from-behind victory over Jackson State Wednesday.

KENNESAW, Ga. Behind an explosive offense that pounded out 23 hits, the University of West Alabama baseball team took a single game from Kennesaw State (17-11) by the score of 19-6 on Wednesday afternoon.
Brandon Boles went 4-for-6 with a home run, a double and three RBIs for the Tigers. Randal Minton added four hits, including a triple, two doubles and two RBIs.

MOBILE, Ala. The University of West Alabama softball team got a couple of strong outings from starting pitchers Christen Chaney and Casey Cockrum, but the Tigers were unable to get the offense rolling as they lost a pair of games to Spring Hill College (12-15) by the scores of 2-1 and 3-1 on Wednesday.

Newton County improved its record to 7-1 for the season with a one-match victory over West Lauderdale (3-2) on Wednesday.
Kernard Johnson picked up a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win over Scott Truesdale in boys' singles action for Newton County, and Kalen Anderson defeated West's Lea Cook 6-1, 6-2.
Newton County's Lauren McDonald and Dru Anderson defeated West's Casey Hedgepath and Nancy Siefker 6-0, 6-1 win girls' doubles to seal the win.
West's Eric Smith and Josh Sonak won the boys' doubles match 6-3, 6-2 against Noah Cook and Devarus Walker, and West's Matt Shamrock and Brook Bounds won the mixed doubles match 6-0, 6-7 (7-4), 6-3 over Josh Cook and Maggie McDill.
