Several local prep baseball and fast-pitch softball teams around the area will be in action today in critical division games.
The Lamar Raiders will be faced with the largest task this week with three division games in two days. The Raiders will square off against Copiah Academy on the road today in single game and on Friday Lamar will host Copiah in a doubleheader.
There has also been a slight change in the start time for the make up game with Newton County Academy for the Raiders. The original first pitch was set to be thrown at 1 p.m., but that has been changed to 6:30 p.m.
Other area prep baseball teams that will be in action on Thursday include: Raleigh at Enterprise and Manchester at Leake.
The local prep fast-pitch softball teams will also be in full gear today and the games on the schedule include: Forest at Choctaw Central, Newton County at Southeast Lauderdale, New Hope at Northeast Lauderdale, Union at Puckett, and Raleigh at West Lauderdale.

ELLISVILLE The Jones Junior College Bobcats and the Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans split a doubleheader here at Bobcat Field Wednesday.
In the opener, Jones scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to post a 5-4 victory. In the nightcap, the Trojans scored three runs in the fourth inning and made them stand up, notching a 3-1 decision.

LIVINGSTON, Ala. The University of West Alabama baseball won two games over Stillman College (9-8) on Wednesday at Tartt Field, defeating Stillman 6-2 in game one and 13-2 in game two.
In game one, West Alabama scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and never trailed.
In game two, Stillman scored two runs in the top of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead, however West Alabama scored four runs in the bottom of the second and never let go of the lead.

STARKVILLE (AP) Craig Tatum had three hits, a run scored and an RBI to lead Mississippi State to a 3-2 victory over South Alabama on Wednesday.

OXFORD (AP) Chris Rich hit a three-run home run that capped a five-run fifth inning and Arkansas State handed Ole Miss its first loss of the season, 11-7, on Wednesday night.

JACKSON (AP) Jay Lee scored 18 points to lead Hattiesburg past Moss Point in the MHSAA Class 5A boys semifinals Wednesday night at the Mississippi Coliseum.

JACKSON (AP) Byers advanced to the MHSAA Class 1A boys state finals, beating Durant 55-43 on Wednesday at the Mississippi Coliseum.
Hancock (girls) 50

JACKSON (AP) Brooke Necaise scored 20 points and Hancock defeated Clinton 50-37 Wednesday to advance to the MHSAA Class 5A girls state championship game.
West Lowndes (girls) 58
East Oktibbeha 50
JACKSON (AP) Heather Benson scored 18 points to lead West Lowndes to a 58-50 victory over East Oktibbeha in the MHSAA Class 1A girls state semifinals on Wednesday.
PREP BASEBALL
Enterprise 18
NE Lauderdale 4
The Bulldogs pounded out 16 hits in a solid win over the Trojans Tuesday night. Enterprise was led at the plate by Anthony Rawson and Justin Lee who each collected a home run in the win.
Corey Irby also added a homer and a single to round out the leading hitters for Enterprise. Corey Chance led Northeast Lauderdale with a double and Nathan Peden added two singles.
Adam Simpson (2-1) took the win on the mound for the Bulldogs and Peden took the loss for Northeast.
Leake Academy 19
Kemper Academy 4
Leake Academy (3-0) stayed perfect for the 2004 season with a convincing victory on the road at Kemper Academy on Tuesday night. Cory Burns led Leake Academy with two singles and Brandon Chancellor also chipped in with a triple in the win.
Colby Beem moved his record to 2-0 with the win for Leake Academy on the mound.
