Lankford named educator of year

Long-time educator Earnest Lankford has been recognized as Educator of the Year at East Mississippi Correctional Facility.
Lankford has devoted more than 30 years of his life to educating students. He is currently one of the General Educational Development, or GED, instructors at East Mississippi Correctional Facility. Since he has been on the educational staff at the correctional facility, more than 130 inmates have received their GEDs.
Gloria Williams, education director at East Mississippi Correctional Facility, said Lankford enjoys working with the inmates and does an outstanding job.
Lankford is a graduate of Livingston High School. He received a bachelor of science degree at Alabama State University. He later received a master's degree and an education specialist degree from the University of West Alabama.
As a part of his recognition, Lankford received a plaque and a monetary gift.
