Championship close at hand

The entries are all in and it's time for the annual City Championships. Both the men and the ladies kick off their tournaments this weekend with hopes of bragging rights for the next year. Shifts will bowl at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for the next two weekends. All bowlers are urged to double check the posted schedules so that you know when you are slated to bowl. Check-in time is 30 minutes prior to the beginning of each shift. While the ladies' entries are finalized, men are reminded that they may still enter any event subject to lane availability. All late entries must be presented at least 45 minutes prior to the beginning of any shift.
Be sure to take part in the Mystery Doubles each shift during the tournaments. February is Bowl for the Cure Month and all proceeds go toward helping find a cure for breast cancer.
I hope you took the opportunity to participate in the YABA Benefit No-Tap Tournament over the weekend. Congratulations to Bob Davis and all those who helped make it a success. A special "thank you" goes out to all those who donated tournament prizes and door prizes. I hope to have a list of winners for you next week.
Congratulations go out to Robert Brown who stole the show in league action last week by punching out his fourth career 300 game. Robert's perfect game came during action in the Ball &Chain league. It also helped propel him to the week's high series with a 752. C.O. Gray blasted out a 748 in the Queen City league while Tim Van Doren cranked out a 740. Johnny Pollock picked up his first 700 of the season with a 731 and Andrew Clayton found the range for a 713. Mike Cothern blasted 700 number 23 for the season with a 708. The red hot Marty McMullen completed the list with a 705.
Nita Fike came out firing strikes and didn't stop until she carded a nice 658 series to lead the women. Her effort also produced the ladies high game for the week at 234. Matar McClinton came on strong to record a 632 while Debbie Jones scattered pins for a 619. Sue Kirkpatrick reeled off a nice 232 game, Shirley Gaines had a 230 and Anna Moreno shored up her team with a nice 229. Shelia Dearman rounded out the list with a 227.
Tyler Davis showed the junior bowlers who was boss last week with a nice 192, 220, 204/616 set during action Saturday morning. Robert Davis got on the board with a 209 while Adam Carson checked in with a 200. Amanda Rickles led the girls with a 153/382 but Randi Allen, Hannah Chisolm, Olivia Taylor, Nefertiti Ferrell, Stephanie Fulton, Sarah Terral and Hope Ferguson all got their two cents worth in.
That's all for this week. Don't forget to check those schedules and we will see you at the City Championships.
