Lamar falls in 2OT to Central

The Lamar Raiders held an 11-point lead at the end of the first half, but dropped a heartbreaker in double overtime to Central Private (26-3) by a final score of 78-76. The Raiders had four players in double figures, with David Haggard leading the way with 18 points.
Austin Roebuck scored 14 points in the loss, and Matthew Fort and Nathan Harrison each chipped in with 12 points.
Lamar (16-10) returns to action on Wednesday in the Division 3A Tournament at Hillcrest against Central Private beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The Lady Raiders fell to 12-17 for the season by dropping a tough decision to Central Private on the road Friday night. Cheryl Luquire led the way in scoring for Lamar with eight points.
Lamar will meet Central Private once again on Wednesday in the Division 3A Tournament at Hillcrest beginning at 4 p.m.
Choctaw (girls) 90
Carthage 44
The Lady Warriors continued their dominance by taking a very impressive win on the road at Carthage on Friday. Misty Dale led the way with 19 points for Choctaw Central, and Chantay Frazier also scored in double figures, with 17 points.
Ashley Flint turned in a great night with 16 points for the Lady Warriors.
Choctaw Central (27-1) returns to action on Tuesday at Newton County.

Choctaw Central 55
Carthage was able to pull off a one-point upset over Choctaw Central at home to give the Warriors only their fifth loss of the season.
Scotty Nickey led Choctaw Central (23-5) with 17 points, and Sean Ahshapaneh scored 14.
Sumter (boys) 61
Demopolis 44
Sumter County had no problems in taking a big win over Demopolis on Friday night to improve to 24-2 for the season. Sumter County continues to hold down the No. 1 ranking in the state of Alabama and returns to action in its divisional tournament next Friday at Aliceville.
Renando Sturdiuant led the way with 14 points, and Temorris Coleman added 10 points in the win.
Demopolis (girls) 39
Sumter Co. 33
Sumter County was unable to take the sweep, as Demopolis took a six-point win over Sumter.
Felicia Drummond led the way with 11 points and 12 rebounds for Sumter County. India Burton chipped in with eight points for Sumter County.
Shawnese Armestead and Gabriel Essex each led Demopolis with 13 points apiece.
Sumter (girls) 49
Marengo 32
The Sumter Academy girls moved into the championship game of the AISA Class 2A West Area Tournament with the win over Marengo Academy. Sumter Academy will square off against host Pickens Academy today at 7 p.m.
Theresa Todd and Brandy Walden each scored 14 points to lead the way for Sumter Academy in the victory.
Patrician (girls) 43
SCA 36
Lauren Downey led the way with 15 points as the Lady Saints took the divisional championship win over South Choctaw on Friday night. Both teams will now advance to the state playoffs next week.
Lanie Jackson led the Lady Rebels with 13 points in the loss for South Choctaw.
