Justin Qualls of Lauderdale and Dusty Hedgepeth of Meridian are among 30 outstanding students at Mississippi College participating in the spring semester in London during the 16th year of MC's participation in the "London Semester" program.
The group will leave for London this month and will be accompanied by Ivan Parke, professor in the Department of Christian Studies and Philosophy, and his wife, Mary Ann Parke; Teresa Floyd, assistant professor of mathematics; and Dean Parks and his wife. Parks is the director of the London Semester program.
The semester will involve courses at the University of London; three British professors will teach the curriculum. In addition, the semester will include visits to museums, galleries, institutes, cathedrals, churches and other artistic and historic sights.
When the semester concludes in late April, the students will engage in post-semester travel across Europe.
Maygen Carpenter of Stonewall, an education major at Mississippi University for Women, recently completed her student teaching requirement.
Gane Duggan, a fourth-grade student at Lamar Elementary School, was one of the winners of the 2004 Energy Poster Competition sponsored by the Mississippi Development Authority Energy Division.
The contest was held in October, in honor of Energy Awareness Month, for students in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades. A poster selection committee selected four posters from each grade level that will appear on a full color wall calendar.
The artists also were awarded a lunch at LeFleur's Bluff State Park Clubhouse in Jackson. Each winner received a plaque and toured the Mississippi Natural Science Museum.
Angela Woodall of Meridian has been nominated and installed to the position of fund-raising chairman for Zeta Tau Alpha at Mississippi State University. Woodall is a freshman.
Brandon Gordon, a Meridian resident and student at the Mississippi School for the Blind, recently won first place for his essay on respect. Respect is the first trait studied in the school's new character education program, Achievement of Character Excellence.
