A dangerous city

By Staff
Dec. 28, 2003
Jackson has earned its reputation as one of America's most dangerous cities. Just ask city councilman Ben Allen, who was carjacked outside his business last Sunday by a gunman who also demanded the contents of his pockets and made off with his house keys.
Allen said the theft occurred as he was leaving his business, Scholastic Products and Awards. He was uninjured, but news reports quoted him as saying "I've had it," referring to crime around his business. He said it was time to move his business.
Allen said the carjacking occurred after he had pulled his car outside the gate to his business and had gotten out of his car to lock the gate. He said he was about 2 feet from his running car when a man sneaked up behind him, pointed a gun to his head and began shouting obscenities.
As Mississippi's Capital city, Jackson's high-profile crime problem needs immediate attention.
