Martin Volunteer Fire Department in Lauderdale County has been chosen to receive a $13,500 Homeland Security Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety grant.
U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering, R-Miss., announced the grant Wednesday part of more than $2.3 million in Homeland Security grants awarded so far this year in the 3rd Congressional District.
Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said one way his department can better protect the nation is by providing millions of dollars in direct support at the local level.
Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety grants can be used for training, wellness and fitness, firefighting equipment, personal protective equipment and modifications to fire stations and facilities.
