MSU Extension Service hosts youth rally

The Mississippi State University Extension Service will host its fourth annual youth rally for teens 12-18 on Wednesday at the Neshoba County Coliseum in Philadelphia.
The theme is "Unlocking Your Full Potential."
Doors open at 5 p.m. and the event begins at 6 p.m. with a fashion show presented by youth from Lauderdale, Newton, Neshoba and Kemper counties as well as the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.
While the teens enjoy the fashion show, breakout sessions will be available for parents and youth leaders featuring nationally recognized motivational speaker John Paul Murphy.
His motivational topics leadership, human relations, communications and group dynamics have been presented in every part of the United States.
Murphy is currently the 4-H youth development specialist with Utah State University Extension Service.
Murphy's message will focus on being a real person, liking all people, aiming high and not taking yourself too seriously.
Participants who bring a stuffed animal will receive a free "Unlocking Your Full Potential" T-shirt while supplies last. The stuffed animals will be donated to The Wesley House.
Lydia Burns, winner of the Family Matters T-shirt Contest, created the design on the T-shirt. Burns, 13, is a 4-H member from Lauderdale County and a home-schooler. This is her second year to win the T-shirt design contest.
Burns said she thought that some of the ways of reaching a person's potential should be included on the logo.
Prizes, including cash, a La-Z-Boy recliner and restaurant gift certificates, will be given away at the rally.
