First Lt. James Hudnell has left his duties as an air traffic control/air field operations officer instructor in the 334th Training Squadron to attend pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base.
Just 10 percent of the 180 to 200 applicants each year are accepted for the program.
Hudnell is a 1996 graduate of West Lauderdale High School and a 2000 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi. He began the one-year program on July 30, with six months training on the T-37B, followed by six months on the T-1A tanker/cargo plane or the T-38C bomber/fighter.
He is the son of Hester and Brenda Hudnell of Meridian.
