Herring: Reeves future of GOP

The chairman of the Mississippi Republican Party says he believes Tate Reeves, GOP candidate for state treasurer, could have a bright future in politics.
Reeves defeated Wayne Burkes and state Rep. Andrew Ketchings in the August GOP primary. Reeves will face Democrat Gary Anderson and Reform Party candidate Lee Dilworth in the Nov. 4 general election.
At stake: A $90,000-a-year job maintaining state fiscal records and managing state investments. Anderson and Dilworth could not be reached for comment.
Reeves, who was in Meridian Saturday for the opening of the local GOP campaign headquarters, said voters will choose between a businessman or a bureaucrat for the job of state treasurer.
As for his political future beyond the treasurer's race, Reeves said he isn't thinking about that right now.
Herring said he's confident Reeves will succeed in the Nov. 4 general election.
