Lady Tigers fair well in home tourney

Southeast Lauderdale started off the 2003 slow-pitch softball season 2-0 on Saturday by taking two games in the Lady Tiger Classic, held at Southeast Lauderdale.
Newton and Quitman joined the Lady Tigers in the round-robin style event, which saw each team see the other two in action. Quitman split its two games, and Newton fell to 0-2.

Laci Maxwell's single in the bottom of the 7th drove in the winning run, giving Southeast Lauderdale a come-from-behind win in its first game of the season.
Maxwell's looper into shallow center scored Lady Tigers shortstop Lindsey Graham from second base, capping a six-run comeback after Southeast Lauderdale fell behind 6-1 early.
Quitman scored all its runs in the first three innings. The Pantherettes scored three runs in the second inning after Sasha Phillips and Abby Scott led off the inning with back-to-back doubles. Phillips and Scott also each drove in a run in the third inning.
They were the last runs Quitman would score in the game. Southeast Lauderdale rallied for five runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double by J.J. Frazier and a two-RBI single from Maxwell.
Lady Tigers head coach Ryan Miller said it was encouraging to see his team post a comeback in their first game.
Madison Davis pitched all seven innings for the Lady Tigers and went 3-for-3 from the plate.
Quitman 23
Newton 4
Abby Scott and Rachel Johnson each had five RBI as the Pantherettes bounced back in the second game of the Lady Tiger Classic to down Newton 23-4.
After falling behind 2-0 after the first inning, Quitman scattered their 23 runs over the next three innings, including an 11-run effort in the third inning.
Quitman head coach D'Aunn Odom was particularly pleased with her team's showing after the letdown in their first game of the day.
Odom cited hitting and conditioning as areas she hopes to improve on her squad.
Southeast Lauderdale 26
Newton 1
Newton again struck first in the third game of the Lady Tiger Classic, but again came out on the losing end as Southeast Lauderdale took a 26-1 win.
Newton scored its run in the first inning on an RBI single from pitcher Kim Carraway.
Southeast Lauderdale tied the game in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Jessica Rose that scored Laci Maxwell.
The Lady Tigers continued with a nine-run third inning and a 16-run sixth inning in which the team batted around twice.
Tiffany Roulier added four RBIs to Southeast Lauderdale's effort. Madison Davis went 5-for-6 from the plate, falling a home run short of the cycle.
Newton head coach Luke Gibbon said his team is very young, but he hopes it will be able to learn quickly.
Newton shortstop Jazz Wheeler went 2-for-2 with two triples.
