EMCC eyes good 2003 schedule

SCOOBA If East Mississippi Community College's 2003 football schedule was a woman, you would call it a perfect 10.
The Lions, who went 3-6 last season, open the season with three of their first four games at home, and the team doesn't have any back-to-back road trips on its schedule.
EMCC even opens the season with back-to-back home games.
The Lions kick off their 2003 football campaign by hosting Jones County Junior College on Sept. 4.
EMCC follows the next week with a home game against Gulf Coast Community College.
The Lions load the bus for the first of only four times during their nine-game season on Sept. 18 to play Northeast Community College.
EMCC quickly returns home to host Itawamba the following week to close out its September schedule.
As an added bonus, EMCC doesn't play an afternoon contest until the weather starts to turn a little cooler.
The Lions first four games, all played in September, have 7 p.m. start times.
EMCC's first game under the sun will be on Oct. 4 when it travels to Moorhead to take on Mississippi Delta Community College at 2:30 p.m.
The MDCC contest is the first of three day games for EMCC.
The Lions play Holmes at 2 p.m. on Oct. 11 for their Homecoming game, and then travel to Northwest Community College for a 2 p.m. game on Oct. 18.
EMCC concludes the season with two more night games with a home contest against Coahoma Community College at 7 p.m. on Oct. 23, and the Lions wrap up the regular season with a 7 p.m. game on the road against Hinds on Oct. 30.
The schedule of favorable home dates, minimal travel and game times that avoid some of the hottest days of the season should help the Lions, as they play in a league that is filled with parity.
