Neshoba Central and West Lauderdale closed down spring football with a scrimmage on Tuesday night in Philadelphia.
The Knights came away with a 23-7 victory in the practice game to cap spring practices, but more importantly, each team came away with some experience.
The two teams played four 10-minute quarters with a format just like a real game.
Fumbles turned out to be the downfall of the Rockets of Neshoba Central for the night, as they coughed up the ball four times during the scrimmage.
West Lauderdale jumped out to an early lead on its first possession of the game. Three plays after taking the kickoff Michael Pogue hit Danny Siefker on a long pass play for a touchdown. Neshoba Central blocked the extra point and the Knights held a 6-0 lead.
The Rockets fumbled the kickoff and the Knights once again put points on the board. Pogue connected on a 32-yard field goal to make the score 9-0, with 3:50 left in the first.
Neshoba Central answered on its next possession, as Kevin Marshall busted loose for a 50-yard touchdown run. Kyle Vowell's extra point made the score 9-7, with 1:09 left in the first quarter.
West Lauderdale came through with a big 30-yard run by Josh Hanible that looked like another Knight touchdown, but a penalty brought the play back. The Knights later fumbled on the 10-yard line.
Neshoba Central fumbled the ball back to West Lauderdale after two plays, and the Knights took advantage of the field position.
Dameon Baylor plunged in from three yards out, and Pogue hit the extra point to make the score 16-7, with 4:58 left in the half.
Neshoba Central fumbled the second half kickoff, but held the Knights on a big fourth down play to get the ball back.
Two plays later the fumble bug struck the Rockets again, and the Knights took advantage of the fumble to score on a pass from Pogue to Hanible to produce the final score.
