Our troops need support
To the editor:
I feel it is great that you cover the deployment story every time some of our local people go out to protect and serve our country.
It makes my blood boil every time I hear about someone putting our troops down. Don't they know what it took to make this nation of ours great? The unselfish sacrifices of thousands of men and their families to fight for our freedom, to fight for the rights that we take for granted too many times.
And when I hear of people like certain actors who have gone public and put down our troops saying their pay should be cut and our military should be downsized, it makes me sick. When these highly-paid actors and singers gripe about our military, they should be made to live one year off of the pay that our troops make and to do the jobs that they do. Then they can see just how hard it is to keep our nation free.
I have served in both the U.S. Navy and the 238th Air National Guard, I am proud to say that I am a veteran. I never had the chance to serve during a war, but would be proud to do so, though I am unable to now.
I was married to a man who was born and raised right here in Meridian. We were married for 25 years before we separated. He is still serving in the Navy.
Two years ago, on that terrible day when we were so viciously attacked, he was called to active duty. He is still on active duty in the states defending our homefront.
He gets to come home every once in a while, sometimes as much as twice a month, but there have been times that I haven't seen him for a couple of months.
I personally wish that we would go to war and quit stalling on what is going to happen anyway. One way or another, maybe not today or tomorrow, but we will go to war over terrorist attacks, so why don't we just get it over with?
What is wrong with the people today is that they have gotten too comfortable with the lifestyles that they have been living, and they are too afraid of losing some part of freedom that they might have.
This entire world is made up of millions of people all with their own ideas of peace and freedom. Face it: We will never live in a perfect world until we are in heaven. But we don't have to live in a world where our families are threatened by terrorism
Our troops do a lot for our great nation. The sacrifices that they put up with each and every day are more than we can ever imagine.
Thanks again for reporting about our troops being activated. I think that we need a lot more support for our troops. They are the backbone of this great nation of ours.

Recognizing Alabama teams
To the editor:
I was at the Clarkdale Tournament this past weekend. I'm from Demopolis, Ala., and I was just writing to let y'all know that the Demopolis High School Lady Tigers were there, too. I saw Tuscaloosa Central and Bibb County listed under the Alabama teams. I just wanted to make sure they got recognized.
The Lady Tigers went 4-0 and only allowed one run the whole weekend, while winning their pool.
I also want to say that the fields were in excellent shape after the rains came. The complex is also very nice. I enjoyed the weekend. Thanks.
