West rallies past Philadelphia

Scoring the game's last 18 points following an injury delay of over 30 minutes, West Lauderdale defeated Philadelphia 68-57 in Division 5-3A boys' basketball action Friday night.
West improved to 17-2 overall and 4-1 in the division. Philadelphia fell to 7-8 and 2-3.
Philadelphia jumped on West hard and often early as the Tornadoes led 18-3 at the end of the opening period.
The Knights staged a second half comeback, cutting their deficit to 53-50 on a three-point play by Karlos Lewis with 5:31 remaining.
The Tornadoes, who led by as many as 17 points early in the third quarter, stretched back out to a 57-50 lead with 4:37 to go on a pair of free throws from Richard Garrett and goaltending on a shot by Bobby Goodin.
On the goaltending play, West's Charles Andrews went to the floor underneath the basket with an injury to his neck after it was stepped on. The game was delayed for 32 minutes until Andrews was removed from the court by stretcher. Both teams were sent to their lockerroom during the delay.
West scored the game's final 18 points as Philadelphia failed to score following the injury delay.
The Tornadoes took a 37-22 lead into halftime behind 14 points from Garrett, nine from Goodin, and eight from Eric Lyons.
The Knights took advantage of some sloppy passes by the Tornadoes to make 5-of-6 free throws in a 43-second span to close to within 41-31 with 4:07 remaining in the third period.
West closed the quarter with 11 of the last 18 points to trail 50-44 with eight minutes to go.
A 3-pointer from Andrews and a three-point play by Lewis trimmed the deficit to 53-50 with 5:31 left.
In the 18-0 closing run, the Knights were 10-of-14 at the free-throw line.
Calvin Moore led West with 25 points. Lewis added 19, Boo Ramsey had 10, and Lee Nelson eight.

The Lady Knights improved to 18-2 overall and 5-0 in 5-3A with the win. West connected on four 3-pointers in the first quarter in jumping out to a 19-7 lead. Patty Monroe hit a pair of treys with Cierra Jennings and Kristina Gardner making one apiece.
West carried a 30-20 lead into halftime.
The Lady Knights outscored Philadelphia 15-8 in the third quarter to break the game open.
Monroe led West with 16 points. J.J. Huggins scored 14, Gardner had 11, Shannon Lloyd nine, and Jennings eight. Lloyd had 10 rebounds while Gardner added seven.
Philadelphia (4-11, 0-5) got 16 points from Shekara Young and 13 from Dominetrix Hunter.
