Injuries reported, utility pole damaged in accident

Sept. 10, 2002
A two-vehicle crash sent five children and two adults to Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center this morning.
Capt. Roger Welborn of the Meridian Police Department said all of the people transported had non life-threatening injuries.
He said the injured people were in a vehicle that hit a utility pole at the intersection of 37th Avenue and 14th Street shortly before 8 a.m. No other information was available, including details about the second vehicle involved or the names of the injured.
Kurt Brautigam, spokesman for Mississippi Power Co., said no power outages were reported because of the wreck and a service crew was preparing to change out the damaged pole by 8:30 a.m.
Police called Mississippi Power workers to the scene before towing the vehicle that hit the power pole for fear that the pole would fall.
It was not clear at press time whether the intersection would have to be blocked to replace the utility pole.
